Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry

If you’re thinking of becoming a cosmetic dentist, then perhaps you should put some thought into getting in an Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. If you eventually want to get in, are there some things that you should be doing now to ensure admission? What exactly are the requirements in order to get to the Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry? These are the kinds of questions aspiring cosmetic dentists will be asking. To help all of you out, here is some information about the requirements.

High School Requirements

Part of getting in is assured by getting good grades in high school. Since getting into dental school, as well as an academy that specializes in cosmetic dentistry can be very competitive, anyone wanting to get in had better make sure that they have the best high school grades to back them up.

Not only do you need to have good grades in order to get in, but you also should have great GPA, SAT and ACT scores. Another thing that may impress the admissions department is your involvement in extra-curricular activities that are related to dentistry. If you are strong in all of these fields, then you will have a better chance of being admitted to a specialty dental program.

College Requirements

Getting into a great undergraduate college is the one of the preliminary steps for getting into an Cosmetic Dentistry Academy. However, before you can go straight to the academy, you have to spend at least 4 years completing your undergrad college degree. Whether you have to major in science or not really depends on the dental school that you want to attend next. If you want to get in the Academy, it may be better for you to graduate with a science major, as most graduates who proceed to an academy finish with this degree or something related to dental medicine.

Post College Requirements

Don’t let a year pass by after completing your undergraduate degree before deciding to take the DAT (Dental Admissions Test). This is a very important step in getting in. For you to be allowed to take the DAT, and to ultimately proceed to the Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, you will be required to complete college level biology classes, as well as classes in organic chemistry. Passing these classes will ensure you the knowledge and stamina to cope once you get in to a Cosmetic Dentistry Academy.

The next thing you need to make sure of before applying is pass your DAT exams. Only then will you have the requirements to apply to the dental school of your choice and then to the Cosmetic Dentistry Academy.

You need to take at least 4 years to finish your dental school before you apply to any Cosmetic Dental Academy. Within these 4 years, you will be exposed to instructional classes, laboratories and clinical work. Again, these are preparatory classes for applying.

After you graduate from your dental school, you have to take and pass the licensure exam before you can enter a Cosmetic Dentistry Academy. Upon passing, then it is up to you to seek additional training. Since cosmetic dentistry is not taught as an area of specialty in dental school, you will need to get into a school that specializes in Cosmetic Dentistry, such as an academy.

Lastly, after completing everything, you can now apply. The road to the Academy may be seemingly long and hard but we assure you that it is worth it.
